About Us

Established in March 2005, the Kilu Music School is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is run as a non-profit institution. Now in our fourteenth year, Kilu is the only the government certified classical music Training Institute in the country. We offer highly qualified teachers and a world recognized curriculum.

Kilu welcomes all students aged 5 and above- including adults who wish to gain a better understanding of the language of music. Students are taught the essentials of music: they practice their music reading and writing skills; they improve their listening skills (see the curriculum) and they learn how to play an instrument of their choice (piano and guitar)(see the list of instruments that are currently taught).

We offer Choir and voice lessons, and musical fun for little kids.

Musical fun for little kids

For children 4-6 years old: A specially formulated course for little ones to experience music through movement, painting, improvisation, and various activities. At the end of the program, your child will be prepared for learning a musical instrument.

Classes take place from Monday to Friday between 2:00pm and 7:30pm and on Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm to accommodate children's normal school timings.

We are closed during National holidays and Sundays.

Our Teachers

Kilu Music School offers excellent teachers with years of pedagogical experience. At present Kilu features two main experts: Samten Chhophel  piano and guitar, and a resident Western teacher Andrea of masters' degree qualifications.

Winter Intensives and Individual piano or guitar lessons

We are offering a few ways for children to spend their winter vacations. It's for 4 weeks; you can join for 1/2/3/4 weeks, your choice! So you can join in any of the four. Or you can enroll for the whole month. And kids and adults can take the opportunity to improve their skills by taking individual piano and guitar lessons too. Four weeks course starts in January every year.
